Everyone has varying sleep demands, but the recommended hours needed of sleep for each person to function effectively are eight hours. In this harried times where rushing is the name of the game and everybody tries to squeeze as many activities as they can in one day, many people are robbing the hours allotted for sleep.
The general rule is if you wake up from sleeping and you are feeling refreshed, your sleep is enough, but if you lack sleep in a night, you may have to make up for it the next day to catch up on the hours needed of sleep each night. You may ask how much sleep you need and this question can be answered depending on several factors. Your genetic make-up for example is one factor. Other factors that determine how much sleep you need are age, daily activities, exercise, and the quality of the sleep you are getting.

Determining the required hours needed of sleep can help you plan your life and your habits. Depriving yourself of sleep could result to a poor performance and decision-making. It could also lead to a lot more physical, emotional and psychological problems.
If you are not getting the required hours needed of sleep, you will be creating a “sleep debt” and this is more serious than just sleep deprivation. If you have not slept well for several nights, your sleep debt will accumulate and this may develop into more serious complications. Paying attention and seeing that you get the proper number of hours needed of sleep can help you maintain a healthy body.
