Insomnia Causes
There are many insomnia causes. The most common is usually stress and worry. When you are anxious about an upcoming event or situation, it's not uncommon for your sleep pattern to become disrupted. Other insomnia causes may include, stimulants taken close to bedtime, anger, depression, pain, certain medical conditions, and even sleeping pills.
Most of us assume that sleeping pills help you sleep. They do by and large, but they can also cause disturbance in your sleeping pattern, thereby helping to perpetuate what you are trying hard to avoid!
Your general state of mind is probably the greatest and most common of the insomnia causes. If you are worried about something important, it can keep you awake and prevent you from enjoying a good night's sleep.
Because insomnia causes tend to keep people tired during the day, it is common for many to take coffee or tea, or other stimulants to try and keep more awake. However, this then becomes a never-ending merry-go-round as the stimulants build on the insomnia causes, to create greater insomnia and the problem is simply exacerbated.
There are many ways to combat insomnia causes and neutralize their effects. A calm mind at bedtime is the most conducive state for a good night's sleep, so do whatever you can to achieve it.
Avoid watching gripping adventure movies late at night as they will only get you unnecessarily excited, helping to contribute to insomnia. Try not to eat too much close to bedtime, in fact, stop eating by early evening for the best effect. Get out of the house and do some exercise, even just walking down the road will help to induce a feeling of tiredness, and relaxation.
Relaxing is probably the best way to combat insomnia causes. There are many effective ways to relax, and you should find ones that suit you best. Lying in a warm bath, thinking about nothing in particular works for many people.
There's something about the privacy of being behind a locked bathroom door that helps to further a feeling of letting it all go. And of course, the warm bath, especially if it has aromatic salts sprinkled liberally in it, can be more than enough on its own.
An evergreen favorite for many people as a way to relax is through reading. A good engrossing book can help to relax anyone, often bringing on that woozy feeling of needing to sleep within 30 minutes or so. Go with the flow and let sleep have its way if you decide to read a chapter or so at bedtime. Never fight it; the insomnia causes are all too willing to help you, so if you feel sleepy while reading, stop and allow sleep to take over.
